Lib Dem website comes close second in policy search tests

News from Brand Republic:

Tamar, the natural search conversion agency, has today released the results of its first Political Search Index, which tracks how easy it is for voters to find official policy information from the mainstream political parties online.

The results show the Labour Party trailing badly behind the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Green Party and the Scottish National Party.

Tamar’s research looked at fifteen specific policy areas of interest to voters and examined how effectively the political parties have optimised content on their own websites for Google.

The overall scores were:

Conservatives 1.5
Liberal Democrats 1.9
Greens 3.1
SNP 6.8
Labour 25.9

Hm. Not sure I would rank the LibDems above the Greens, personally.

It’s a clear win for the Tories. Their website hides a lot of things, but two things it is better at is policy and the shadow cabinet.

If you take away the worst result from each party, that is, the Afghanistan result from the Greens, the Greens finish 2nd. It’s probably 26th, as we frame policy around peace, rather than specific conflicts/theatres.

Strange, I know I can never find anything I want to on the Lib Dems website – particularly the results of votes at conferences, which actually decide what our party policy is, rather than manifestos which define what the PR machine wants it to be.
