A sure way to tell if an election is in the offing

Headline no.1: “Crossrail link ‘to get go-ahead’”

Headline no.2: “Crossrail gets the green light”

Can you spot the difference? The first was in the run-up to the last general election whilst the second is from today, aka the run up to the next general election.

Nice Labour spin, repeatedly re-announcing their commitment to the very same project don’t you think? Especially as these are by no means the only two occasions when they’ve done it.

[Insert outrage to your taste here about how media have been conned, letting Labour get away with repeatedly re-announcing their support for Crossrail etc].

Thanks – I was thinking we’d seen this a number of times before, so thanks for digging out chapter and verse!

Sorry to be pedantic but they are different. The first was about the scoping, today is the real go ahead. It is going to happen and is the biggest puplic transport investment for over 100 years. Can’t include channel tunnel etc as that is not mass transport like Crossrail.

For the avoidance of doubt I am a Lib Dem. If you want to criticise say it is too late, been talked about for 20 years and will pretty much suck up all public tranport investment for the next 10 years.
