And now for something completely different

Apparently there’s another leadership contest happening across the pond, and it’s attracting even more coverage than the Lib Dems’ two-horse race.

The last few days have been tricky ones for Hillary Clinton, following her faltering performance in the Democratic Party’s Philadelphia debate last Tuesday. The John Edwards campaign has just released this attack video, The Politics of Parsing: sharp, sassy stuff.

Will either Nick or Chris go down this route in the coming weeks? We somehow doubt it…

Remembering some things Dave has been saying in order to please everybody, it might be a good idea to make a similar video on him for the next GE. Or would it become too long?

Personally I think this sort of stuff rebounds on the maker of the video. Its not difficult to cut together isolated quotes out of context to make any politician look as if they have made contradictory statements. But will some people not realise that and be swayed by it? I suspect it will have relatively little impact on Hilary (except to reinforce the prejudices of those who hate her) unless she continues to perform badly in debates (when it could start to affect middle ground voters). At present, I still think she will win the nomination. And I think it would be a mistake for LDs to follow Edwards down this path, as British politics is generally less attack ad oriented. This may be changing with the You Tube generation, but only very slowly. I suspect that ordinary non-political You Tubers are more interested in politician’s blunders (the more outrageous the more popular as Kevin Rudd’s ear wax incident demonstrates.) A good reason not to shred each other in a primary when you are on the same side. Do your enemies work for you.
Same applies to British leadership selections..
