@Helen Duffett: 'it will be interesting to see how the vote is split by the minor parties and independents, all of whom have or have had right-wing leanings'

As someone within the Buckingham constituency, I don't think 'interesting' is the most appropriate word here - it's a pretty rubbish position to be in for those of us who would never vote for the Right but are not being given any alternatives other than abstinence.

I've been checking out the main parties' websites to try to figure out how to use my vote; the impression I've been left with is not much more than passive interest at best and apathy at worst ...

You should have a look at all the choices right-whingers have got in Stoke-on-Trent Central if you like that kind of thing. Mind you, it only guarantees an even heavier Labour victory so we shouldn't be laughing.

So you have a choice between BNP, UKIP, Independent Conservative #1, Independent Conservative #2, and Ex-Conservative Speaker Seeking Re-election. What an amazing array of choice for the people of Buckingham!

Should the main parties campaign on behalf of the speaker? It seems to me that these minor parties are campaigning against parliament itself. That's fair enough, but this speaker seems rather better than the last, and doesn't deserve to take the brunt.
