However I am greatly concerned that 1) Pakistan is a nulcear power and 2) whenever Pakistan has been a democracy in the past it has always been unstable, and is showing serious signs of becoming so again. I loathe the "realpolitics" that justifies supporting dictators, but the first priority in the interests of the world is to stop nuclear weapons getting into the wrong hands. From a Liberal point of view the policy options available in Pakistan are simply impossible! Can we really support democracy if it makes more likely what we least want?
