Did your MP vote for the Iraq war?
Written by The Voice on 25th March 2008 – 11:09 amYou can find out the answer on the party’s new site, www.holdthemtoaccount.com.
Having been cheerleaders for the war in 2003, the Conservatives are now trying to pass themselves off as sceptics with their call for an inquiry (something the Liberal Democrats have already demanded).
Ed Davey’s quote is worth mentioning:
“For the Tories to demand an inquiry into the Iraq war is like Ronnie Biggs wanting an inquiry into the great train robbery.
“It is flattering that the Conservatives have come round to our long-held belief that there must be a full inquiry into the war as soon as possible. However, it would have greater strength if they admitted the key role they had in letting this catastrophic decision be made in the first place.
“If David Cameron and William Hague want any legitimacy in this debate, the first thing they should do is say sorry for the way they propped up the Labour Party as it pushed us into an illegal war.”

Actually not all of us will due to the way TheyWorkforYou’s constituency database works. All of us North of the Border in Scotland find ourselves in a different constituency area post 2005 than before and while our MP may ahve represented a proportion of the constituency they now represent at the time of the vote. The postcode search may return that that Member was not a Member of Parliament at the time merely because their constituency did not exist and therefore many of us are listed as not having an MP present before 2005 even though they were.
Darn shame as some of Scottish Labour really do need to be held to account.

Stephen, the search tells you whether or not the person who is currently your MP voted for the war - even if they represented a slightly different area at the time.
This even extends to reporting for Bethnal Green voters that George Galloway didn’t vote for the war, although he was a Scottish MP at the time of the vote.

Cheers Will but there was an initial error which has since been resolved as regards Linlithgow and East Falkirk or should that be Linlithgow and Falkirk East. Apparently it was all down to semantics, ho hum.
Just glad the site now tells me what I already knew. Now that I’ve actually praised both West Lothian Labour MPs in one day I really need a balance piece for my blog to show them in their true light again.
