Hmm. Generally I like excitement, but I hope it doesn’t go too far. He’s an acting leader with a mandate from the parliamentary party and his constituency only – not the party membership at large.

I’ll accept any excitement on offer.

Gotta be job share. No question.

    Job share with who, James?

I reckon it’s exciting news about Land Value Taxation.

‘LVT’ and ‘exciting’ is surely oxymoronic?

King Abdullah has invited him for an all expenses paid extended stay in Saudi Arabia?

He’s declaring a state of emergency, calling off the leadership election and putting Huhne and Clegg under house arrest?

Leo: isn’t it obvious? Clegg and Huhne are entering into a civil partnership.

I can hardly wait……I think its that Ming will be speaker, Brown will resign, Simon will become Pope, and Cameron will be so disconcerted by his stunt double he will give up the ghost and leave us to sweep up?

My guess would be – and probably what James meant with ‘job share’ – is that he’s going to stand down as Deputy Leader, with the recommendation that the job goes to the runner-up in the leadership election.

A new leadership structure has been created along the lines of ancient Rome. Two consuls, Nickandchris, will hold executive office jointly and they will be overseen by a censor, a wise and respected elder who holds no executive power but whose advice is always heeded because their authority and integrity are unimpeachable.

    MILLENNIUM ELEPHANT!

“Exciting news” indeed. I’ll need my drip tray.

Surely he’s going to tell Nick Clegg how we would pay for the Pupil Premium?

Nick@11: That is far more sensible that what I was suggesting.

If it was Ming, I’d have guessed he was announcing the Act of Union, but with Vince it could be anything…

Hope it isn’t what Nick@11 suggests. I do think we will need a new deputy leader After This Ball Is Over but I dont think it should be the runner-up. Deputy should be another MP from the second-placed candidates backers. For example if Nick makes it then someone like Lynn Featherstone should be deputy. The runner-up needs to be in a much more powerful position than the formal deputy slot.

Aren’t all MP’s on Rememberance Sunday duty at 10:30 am tomorrow?

Like Vince has been as Shadow Chancellor and Deputy Leader you mean? I don’t see anything wrong with that arrangement. Though I don’t actually see how he as acting leader could “announce” such a thing as aren’t there Parly Party standing orders to *elect* the deputy leader(s)?

Maybe he will be announcing that Chris and Nick will each have a turn to act in the Lib Dem leader slot at Prime Minister’s Questions, as Mike Smithson suggested in PoliticalBetting.com ?

P’raps he’s announcing they’re all boycotting Remembrance Day as a protest against the Iraq war….?
