Yes this is true and it didn’t help that we had another set of bad results in Harrow last year too. When we lost council seats we should have been out campaigning but we clearly weren’t. Same for Hillingdon! (Sob!)

It always was – you needed the same description on the nomination paper as on the DNOs certificate.

Matters weren’t helped by handing in the Harrow nomination papers at the very last minute (40 mins before the noon deadline according the court reports)

The answer to Peter’s question is that the Returning Officer, Mr Balabanov (who threatens to sue people who are rude about him – even a fellow solicitor, on one occasion), refused to accept the nominations of the others (they had called themselves “Liberal Democrat Focus Team” instead of “Liberal Democrat” – unlike the 3 in Harrow Weald who were “Liberal Democrat”). And the High Court agreed with Mr Balabanov.

We have also retained control of Kidlington Parish Council in Evan Harris’ constituency.

Nine Lib Dems returned unopposed, fifteen seats in all.

I can go one better – we’ve retained control of Bradfield Parish Council in South Yorkshire after 11 out of 13 councillors were elected unopposed…

Alan Connett, Lib Dem leader of Teignbridge DC, just got returned unopposed. The Tories only put up one candidate in a two member Kingsteignton ward – the only other candidates are the two Lib Dems, so at least one gain there, if not two!

It looked rather impressive on Stuart’s flying start Focus which has already gone out so at least the people of Reepham heard something from us about this election. Just a shame that no other parties thought given them a chance to vote was a good idea. This was the ward with the highest turnout in Broadland District last time.
