And, er, are you going to discuss how Richmond and Kingston councils are reacting to the recession?

A loony left council. I have not heard that one in ages. It is like the eighties all over again ;)

Excellent article BTW.

Now for Islington S and Finsbury and time to boot Gormless Gasson out.

When I saw the title of this article I was initially very pleased. This site has a massive dislocation between artciles from those Lib Dems with Power ( currently controlling group councillors and to some extent the Lords, MEP and MSP groups) and those that don't ( currently everyone else)

However the article its self is very specifics free. Of the five examples only two has specifics ( $800k council tax rebates and 30 to 10 day bill paying) and none of the five contains a specific claim that it has been freshly introduced as a recesion or credit crunch measure.

I'd be really keen to see a "recesion watch" series on here (with a better title !) showing very specific things our council groups were doing particularly if there is a distinctly liberal philosphical thread under pinning them.

Morton's First Law of Politics is " People aren't stupid."

If you add the contraction that has already happened (2.1%) to say the ITEM clubs not outlandish predictions then we are looking at at least 5.2% GDP contraction by the end of 2010. Its not just that that is probably the worst since the 40's its that its the worst ever since we became a consumerist society. I think the sense of social dislocation is going to be far greater as result of that. I heard Cameron directly pinch Browns "Real Help Now" the other day. Its not surprising that his focus groups are telling him that the focus has shifted from " whoes to blame" to "what are we going to do about it"

so should ours. Apologies for being a bit rude about the article. Full credit to James for being the first to write such a one.
