Conservative proxy vote scandal widens
Written by Mark Pack on 29th April 2008 – 10:23 amInteresting information to be found if you read the latest proxy votes list for Thursday’s Winchester Council elections. Since the news broke that a Conservative activist in Whiteley ward, John Hall, has been charged by the police with false registration information, false proxy voting application and making a false instrument, the council has issued the final list of proxy votes for Thursday’s elections.
Comparing this list with the previous list shows that six proxy votes in the Whiteley ward are no more. Of the six, two had John Hall down as the person to cast their vote. Another two had his wife, Sue Hall, and the last two had the wife of this year’s Conservative candidate down. It looks as if all six were taken out in suspicious circumstances, though of course we don’t yet know who knew what about what went on.

Never mind Winchester where Lib Dems are hoping to take control. How about Liverpool where you’ve had control for ten years and may be about to lose it.
Miles and miles of bad behaviour and bullying. A marathon in fact of 26 specific offences against the code of conduct.

It puts in a different light something I heard a leading Winchester Conservative say to their then PPC : “Stick with me chum, and I’ll get you into Westminster…..or prison”!

Just for the record:
Parties on Winchester City Council 2007-2008
Con 29 Lib Dem 23 Lab 1 Ind 4 - Seats 57 Tories control by one seat
Likely result without Whiteley proxy votes:
Con 27 Lib Dem 25 Lab 1 Ind 4 - No overall control

On the doorstep in Whiteley I was told to; ‘forget my vote, all politicians are the same, I’m not voting for a set of crooks’.
I took her to task, refusing to be put in the same band as a cheating Tory - little good done - she is turned off politics for a long time. This sort of behaviour does us all a disservice.
