Some vote share figures for key seats for the Liberal Democrats, based on the local election results. I’m afraid this is a bit of an info dump.
In Stephen Williams’ Bristol West, we scored 40% of the vote, with the Conservatives on 15% and Labour on 21%.
In David Howarth’s Cambridge seat, the Liberal Democrats got 37%, with the Conservatives on 26% and Labout on 25%.
In Labour-held City of Durham, we took 49% with Labour on 43%.
A stonking result in Chris Huhne’s Eastleigh seat, with 50% of the vote. The Tories were down on 30% and Labour had 12%.
Bradford East split 37% for us, 32% for Labour, and 23% for the Conservatives.
In Hull North – where Labour took 52% at the general election in 2005 -we received 47%, with Labour on 32% and the Tories in single figures.
In Greg Mulholland’s Leeds North West constituency, the LibDems took 41%, with the Conservatives on 31% and Labour – who held the seat until two years ago – on 18%.
Take a breath… now the good news from across the North West of England.
In Warrington South, we received 52% of the votes cast; Conservatives 23%, Labour 22%.
In John Pugh’s Southport seat, we were on 43%, with 45% in Paul Rowen’s Rochdale.
In Tim Farron’s Westmorland & Lonsdale seat, we took 57% with the Tories on 41% and Labour on… 0.003%.
Oldham East & Saddleworth saw a 53% Liberal Democrat vote, with the Conservatives on 15% and Labour on 25%.
In John Leech’s Manchester Withington seat, we got 47%, with Labour on 34% and the Tories on 9%.
In Mark Hunter’s Cheadle, the Liberal Democrats scored 44%, with the Conservatives on 38% and Labour on 8%, and in Burnley we received 35% over Labour’s 32% and the Conservatives’ 16%.
Finally, in Chris Rennard’s home turf of Liverpool Wavertree, we received 59% of the vote. Labour got 23% and the Tories 4%.

No mention of North Norfolk ? Still 30 councillors, one gain from Independent and on elostt to the Tories (by just three votes), with 30 seats won (two up on 2003) and holding both seats won in by-elections since 2003.
Bristol west – down from 49% in 2003 – 5% swing to labour 2003-2007
Are you comparing like with like, Paul Smith? It looks to me like the OLD Bristol West (2003) with the NEW Bristol West (2009?) – with and without Stoke Bishop, Westbury and Henleaze etc.
Looks like a common pattern across the country that areas with LD MPs seem to have held up well.
In the new Thornbury & Yate constituency (the renamed and shrunken Northavon) we took 15/18 seats (with 2 more LD seats being elected on 24th May), and 56% of the vote – Labour were down to 6%!
Whilst I’d always rather be ahead how do these figures compare to last time/year.
55% of the vote now is not necessarily good if you got 65% last time!
In the seven Bristol West wards (out of nine) that were up for election Lib Dems won six and Labour came FOURTH in four of them! They came third in a ward they held until 2005, second in another (where they held the other seat in 2005) and won the final one only because of a big rise in the Green and Respect votes. All Bristol West wards saw at least four party contests which makes a 40% Lib Dem vote share all the more pleasing.
Northampton North
Lib Dem 54% (19 councillors
Tory 22% (0 councillors)
Labour 19% 92 councillors and 1 MP)
Bring on the general election!
Sorry that should say Labour 2 councillors, not 92 councillors!
