Labour bans flip-flops

Catching up on news from last week: Labour-run Oldham Council has decided to ban all staff (including those who sit at a desk all day) from wearing flip-flops in the name of safety, with the result that staff have said it is a case of “health and safety gone mad.”

Even the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has questioned the ban. And as Howard Sykes, the leader of the Liberal Democrat opposition puts it:

Can we please treat our staff like adults and have some common sense applied?
