Members of trade unions affiliated to the Labour Party get to vote in that party’s deputy leadership contest. Lib Dem blogger and MP John Hemming was unaware that his membership of the Musicians’ Union gave him such a right until he got his ballot paper today. By expressing your choice in the comments section of his blog, you can vote as part of a Lib Dem electoral college to decide how his one vote in the TU electoral college should be cast. Feel the power; use your vote unwisely.

I am aware of another Lib Dem Councillor who also has a vote.
All Lib Dems who are members of Labour Party affiliated trades unions should opt out of the political levy.
Can anyone provide a link to a site that provides the form to opt out from the levy?

No. The Trade Unions should be reformed such that the Political Levy is Democratic.
It’s a two-way street – Newcastle LDs were delighted to receive a cheque for £500 from the Bakers and Confectioners Union towards our election expenses in support of the campaign of our victorious candidate who stood against and defeated the Labour leader in May. Our candidate was a former Labour councillor too 🙂
