I attended the `Local Solutions' Sheffield 2009 -Lib Dem.Local Govt' Conference and some highlights were:

1.The speech by Sheffield L/D Council Leader Cllr Paul Scriven/PPC for Sheffield Central, whom is leading on rolling out the democratic decision making to the people, for the first time, since the City Charter in 1893-via the City community involvement strategy.

2.Cllr Keith Moffit L/D Leader of LB of Camden on `Environmental Good Practice' and important urban inner city work governance on how to move to a `Zero Carbon Britain'?

3.Cllr Kath Pinnock on the L/D sustainable Environmental Policies in reducing the cost by £200 each of keeping warm in the winter, for the fuel bills for Kirklees Unitary residents.

Sheffield is a magnificent City and now since May 2008 represents a watershed change for local democratic empowerment, like Newcastle and Liverpool.

L/D Councils open up their doors and minds to the residents to involve, innovate and change local services for the better.
