Given that you want nominations to co-incide with Christmas, I suggest John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, who has taken yet another high profile stand against the forces of tyranny and oppression - this time in Zimbabwe - while his peers and immediate line manager (Cantab) spend ever more time worrying over issues of human sexuality.

All power to his liberal elbow I say!

I would nominate Barack Obama. His determination to take on spiraling entitlement spending, making healthcare more affordable, forging a more progressive foreign policy, and his focus on the individual over groups, means that he is the most 'liberal' presidential candidate, in our terms, since the 60s.

Tory: Not quite sure what you mean by that. I suspect most Lib Dems have a positive view of Gore; I doubt our MPs have had many chances to appear beside him, but would if they could!

I'm genuinely curious about what the Lib Dems make of Al Gore, because they haven't been seen with him in front of the media and haven't tried to bring him into the environmental debate in this country.
