That way we at least have transparency over how much money idividuals have donated so if Ashcroft or someone else donated £4m to a political party but also gave £2m (random figure) to local parties as well then we should know that they have in fact given £6m. The other option which I favour is to ban donations from people not resident in the consituency. Why should people be able to make donations to help elect the representative of other people?
