Is Ming's time best spent explaining himself to the party who voted for him (he did have a clear majority afterall) or trying to represent our principles and ideas to the people we want to vote for us? I'm not saying I think that greater interactive engagement with party members is a waste of his time, clearly not, but that maybe good leaders have to see a bigger picture and not get caught up in internal factionalism. As you say Paul, you're probably going to write your hypothetical rant anyway, so I wonder, would his attempts to connect with his detractors actually succeed in furthering debate about our direction and aims as a force for political good? But I'm tempted to suggest that a "conference call podcast" would be a better and more distinctive option. When I did a chatoom on election night, I used a Wordpress plugin called Wordspew Extended. When I need to I can turn it back on in 30 seconds on a page or in a post. www.libdemblogs.co.uk might be a suitable neutral venue - I'm not whether LDV is on Wordpress. Like the Live Chats ideas.
