Interesting stuff Alix of Mortimer ... however the bonus issue has always HAD TO BE restricted to Board and other non-contractual arrangements.

Unless we overhaul the whole of tort, contract or whatever and specifically employment law we're not going to get to a place where anyone in any industry can be denied a contractual payment because the board or the PM decides to welsh on the arrangement.

Probably easier to tax any such bonus within and inch of its life, possibly on the wrong side of life. Surely stopping them is a non-starter?

(I'm not a lawyer, but I did work for a time in personnel at a senior level for a rather large organisation. In which bonuses were not paid. Even in the face of iredeemingly poor work. But if a valid enforceable contract said we would pay then we would have done.)
