Of course, I read that caption from earlier today as a mark of praise rather than of exasperation:

Having read his comments about sex offenders registering their e-mail address and IP address so the police can track them, my first thought was indeed “Christ, Huhne!”. Closely followed by “Are we trying to make ourselves look like luddite idiots again?”
What Dave said.
I intend to do a bit of private work on technology policy after the Gen. Elec, probably as a summer hobby. Shame that Huhne is weaker on technology than his great research work over Ashcroft recently.
Why is what Huhne is suggesting any different from sex offenders having to register/notify changes in their address?
It isn’t that registering your email address, ISP, “IP address” (ok that bit is a bit luddite but range could be worked out from the ISP) is a measure that isn’t easily evaded but that it defines behaviour which is a clear breach of sex offender order conditions.
There are three options for internet access by sex offenders, no controls, a complete ban on access or access under certain defined conditions. I’m not sure either of the first two are particularly good options for the majority of situations.
