MatGB, in the Dunfermline by-election the local paper (The Courier) got round this by initially having only the four main parties on the platform with the others contributing from the audience. In the end, on the night the main candidates all insisted that the smaller parties be included in the debate and so it became a bit of a squash.

KL; from what Mark's said, looks like the other way around, they don't have to invite all their members, but they do have to ensure only members are present.

Mark; we have a lot of controversy locally with both the NUT and Churches Together running public hustings open to all but excluding 'minor' candidates; CT say they only want parties with Parliamentary representation, the NUT didn't make any reason public.

Obviously, our candidate gets invited, and is publicly supportive of the attempts by the Green candidate to also be invited, but given that it's only three candidates (out of at least 7 declared), and they're public, but they're all taking place before the official calling of the election (2 have happened already), how does it apply?

So that means that if Unite organise a hustings for their members living in Gordon Brown's constituency (i.e. me) then they should invite all of us?

Bet somehow - as a Lib Dem councillor - I'm "accidentally" omitted from the list...
