Survey: LibDems are hopelessly romantic

The Liberal Democrat Voice team is normally very circumspect about surveys. But, it being Valentine’s Eve, our romantic natures got the better of us on this occasion…

UK Dating site FreeDating.co.uk has carried out a survey which reveals differing attitudes to Valentine’s Day, based on political persuasion. According to the survey, Liberal Democrats are particularly positive to Valentine’s Day.

The site says:

Liberal Democrats are hopelessly romantic – along with lawyers, Christians, and women who don’t read books.

Both Tory and Labour voters are about as unromantic as you can get, beaten only by atheists and scientists. Married men looking to cheat on their wives are marginally more romantic than the beleaguered supporters of our two main political parties.

So says our latest survey, which looked our users’ attitudes to Valentine’s Day – 6,878 of them in all.

We asked them to rate how important they thought the most romantic day of the year was, and combined their answer with anonymised data from their dating profiles.

Our statistician crunched the numbers, and pulled out any links between the kind of information you find in a typical dating profile, and whether or not those people were enthusiastic fans of Valentine’s Day.

Maybe this is why the LibDems have taken so easily to the marriage of coalition?

The survey suggests that being a Tory MP and “playing away from home” are characteristics which are strong predictors of a negative attitude to Valentine’s Day. The site, rather unfairly, suggests that Zac Goldsmith MP may fall into this “unromantic” category. We couldn’t possibly comment.

Here is an interesting infographic of the site’s results:

A call has been made to Bonkers Hall to enquire as to whether his Lordship may have any words of wisdom on this subject to impart to eagerly attentive LDV readers. If there is a Lordly response, it will be carried on LDV tomorrow, Valentine’s Day.

So, if I am a single, atheist, Lib Dem. What then?

  • Tracy, there is someone out there for everyone, just keep positive.

On 13 February all cut flowers go on the compost heap to make space in the vases. Comments are made about the condition of the red roses in Tesco, already past their best on Saturday, probably flown in from Kenya, unlikely to last long after Tuesday.
Where is Tom Lehrer when we need him?
We should also think about those who have loved and lost, but how exactly?
