Cowdenbeath by-election and local election results

The Cowdenbeath by-election result is in. From The Courier:

Alex Rowley (Lab) 11,192 (share 55.79%, +9.33%)
Natalie McGarry (SNP) 5,704 (28.43%, -13.17%)
Dave Dempsey (C) 1,893 (9.44%, +2.45%)
Denise Baykal (UKIP) 610 (3.04%)
Jade Holden (LD) 425 (2.12%, -1.77%)
Stuart Graham (Victims) 187 (0.93%)
James Trolland (SDA) 51 (0.25%)

Cowdenbeath by-election gets underway as Willie Rennie and Jade Holden visit nursery

Jade Holden CowdenbeathThe Scottish Liberal Democrats have chosen Jade Holden, who’s 23, a current Euro candidate and former Liberal Youth Campaigns Officer, as their candidate for the forthcoming Cowdenbeath by-election. The poll was caused by the sudden death of Labour MSP Helen Eadie of whom Scottish Leader Willie Rennie said:

As fellow parliamentarians for West Fife, Helen’s intense, burning commitment to socialism was inspiring to observe. Although a gentle and kind lady you did not cross Helen without suffering from the sharp end of her tongue.

Helen made waves for her causes and

Scottish Euro-selection: George Lyon reselected at top of list

George Lyon MEP has been reselected at the top of the list in the Scottish Liberal Democrats’ European selections. Although the votes were counted last Thursday, the results were only announced this afternoon because of a delay in contacting one of the candidates.

Lyon attracted 80.7% of first preferences which will give him bragging rights over Sir Graham Watson in the South West who must have thought his total of 79% would not be beaten.
