Robin Meltzer selected as PPC for Richmond Park

Another PPC selection came to fruition last night. Robin Meltzer was chosen as the Liberal Democrats’ parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park, North Kingston and New Malden. He said on his website:

Conference calls for our parliamentarians to reject Secret Courts

At most conferences there is at least one debate which proves how different we are from the other main parties. Different because we entrust Conference to decide party policy, in open debate, even where that may be at odds with the views of our parliamentarians.

Today’s debate on the ‘Secret Courts’ motion was a good example. The full title was F41: No Government Above the Law – The Justice and Security Bill.

First Lib Dem win in Kensington & Chelsea – congratulations Councillor Caruana!

Carol Caruana signs in as councillorFantastic news from yesterday’s Colville by-election in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (unusually held on a Wednesday):

Carol Caruana is the first elected Liberal Democrat in the borough – with more votes than the Tories and Labour combined.

The results from ALDC are as follows:

Carol Caruana LD 634 (46.9; +16.8)
Con 330 (24.4; +3.2)
Lab 300 (22.2; -19.2)
Green 77 (5.7; -1.5)
Ind 10 (0.7; +0.7)
Majority 304
Turnout 24.0%
Lib Dem gain from Lab
Percentage change is from 2006
