Fascinating comments from Nadine Dorries about the encroaching menace of Islam in Oxford. She clearly has never visited Oxford and hasn't got a clue what she is talking about.

A new mosque is being built in Oxford, proudly funded by the local community with no external funding from abroad - they are adamant that none would be accepted. It will also be nowhere near the elitist, fossilised 'dreamy spires' that imbeciles like Dorries like to idealise but have probably never seen. The university is just one part of a larger town.

You absolutely have to love the Tories when you read dross like her blog.

Not for banning it just that it shouldn't be possible for it to happen. The sort of po-faced illiberalism the party is full of.

Since you have raised no opposition to blowing billions on the windmills & bicycles I mentioned it is clear what your opinion of an "approprtate" use of resources & yes if Mr Branson had shared the LD view he would not now be running a whelk stall.

Neil Craig, were you to read my post, you'd see that I didn't call for the banning of anything. I remely suggested that a more appropriate use of resources could be found. I don't labour under the delusion that Virgin care about my opinions, I'm just stating a view.

In fact he shares his views on Virgin Galactic, which I assume Asquith & other LudDems would like to see banned in the same way that any journey by Columbus should be banned till we have sorted out all the problems in Europe.

Virgin Galactic exists because purely some individuals put up an X-Prize of $10 million for the first non-governmental trip to space.

Coinicidentally some years before that launch & obviously before my expulsion from the party for economic liberalism, in response to a call for some "blue sky" ideas I put up a motion saying that we should support slightly larger state funding of such a prize here. Apart from anything else this would have encouraged high technology industries to settle here.

I suspect that at the time I was pretty nearly the only person in the party who had heard of X-Prizes & since it didn't involve Victorian technology like bicycles or windmills it wasn't taken seriously.

I may remind the party of this in another 7 years, or indeed less.

Hmm. I'm a little sceptical about travelling into space because I think we'd be better off sorting out our own planet. And if it's unknown climes you want, there's enough in the deep seas, jungles, and frozen wastes for anyone!
