  What is this bollocks? Why was Goldsmith right in the front row for Cameron’s big speech? One seat away from Samantha Cameron, I think.

  Why would he do it?

  Why would he go from a party where he is going to get elected, and will be part of a Government adctually able to do something about the environment, to a party that has no hope of changing a thing

  And one that is potentially going to get an almighty squeezing by the two main parties at the next general election. I would not rule it out and if it does happen would give me great pleasure in seeing happening. British politics needs only two parties. It makes things much simpler, France being living proof of that in the recent French presidential elections.

  Paul: I’m not sure what “proof” the French presidential election in 2007 was? Fourty-three percent of the electorate didn’t want either of the two highest-placed candidates in the first round. Rather suggests that they wanted something more than just two parties to choose between? Oh and remember 2002, when in the second round, voters had to choose between a fascist and a conservative. Bet all those left-wingers really appreciated a simple system that allowed them to choose between two candidates!!

  You think that but when you look at the electoral mindset of both France and Great Britain it is the French that have a better attitude towards democracy than the British. The French presidental elections this year are again proof of that.

  You’re just rambling now. I “think that” because it’s true. You’ve still not explained how the French presidential elections in 2007, when 43% of the voters voted for candidates from parties other than the “big two”, shows how it’s much simpler if you only have two parties?

  You’re still not explaining it when you just assert that the French have a better attitude to democracy.

  Why don’t you go and deliver several billion leaflets for the Tories, like a good chap.

  So I assume you’re going to defect to the Lib Dems in Yeovil now?

  Given your record of losing to the Lib Dems isn’t it the only option?

  In case readers are confused Kevin Davis managed to lose his own ward in Surbiton (scene of the Good Life) while the Tories made gains elsewhere in the Borough. He obviously lost massively to Ed Davey in the last General election.

  The main reason he keeps losing is his inability to tell the truth.

  He said when he was leader of Kingston Council he would keep the Council tax down – but his admistration put it up by 50%. He then claimed he wasn’t in charge of the Council, but he and his ‘cabinet’ colleagues claimed more than £200,000 of public money in special responsibility allowances.
  He claimed he was committed to Surbiton and then pops up as Tory candidate for Yeovil…
