Last night saw four principal council by-elections across the country with Lib Dem candidates standing in two of the four.

Gail Smith and the team stormed to victory in Sheffield Mosborough, going from 4^th place to taking the seat from Labour with 45.6% of the vote – an increase of +34.2% since the seat was last contested in May!

A local resident and former Mosborough councillor from 2008-2012, Gail fought a strong campaign challenging the Labour dominated council on issues such as the selling off of local parks.

The hard work of Gail and the team saw Labour pushed into second place, and the Conservatives, UKIP & Greens all saw a drop in their vote share.

Huge congratulations to Cllr Smith and the campaigners in Mosborough for such an impressive result.

Elsewhere in the country Milden Halyungu Choongo stood in Shepway South, Maidstone. Sadly the result was a UKIP hold (45.2%; +7.0%) with the Lib Dems coming in 5^th. Well done to Milden for standing and giving the people of Shepway South a chance to vote for the party.

The other by-elections last night were in Mansfield, Yeoman Hill (Labour hold) and Barrow-in-Furness, Parkside (Labour hold). Unfortunately there were no Lib Dem candidates contesting these seats.
