Elsewhere, we got a pretty good swing from the Tories in the Darwell ward in Rother. In another part of the same council, we were not able to field a candidate.

A by-election in Rhyl and a town council by-election in Lewes will be counting this morning and we’ll put up the results later.
UPDATE: Seaford Town Council has two new Lib Dem councillors, a hold and a GAIN from the Conservatives.

Interested to see that the BBC’s Daily Politics mentioned these results today, but not in detail. More usefully, it highlighted our net gains and the net losses of the other parties. Good to see the BBC actually saying something positive about us for a change.
Kirkburton Parish Council, Lepton Ward (Kirklees)
Lib Dem Hold
LD 438 (48%); Tory 294 (32%); Labour 141 (15.5%) UKIP 39 (4.3%)
Turnout 20% (more than half postal votes…)
Result in 2015 was 2 x LD, 2x Green 1x Tory in a 5 member ward. top % LD 30; G 27; T 26; ind 17
Congratulations to the excellent Lib Dem candidate Alison Munro
Note Lepton is 1/3 of Almondbury, a three way marginal which we lost by 60 votes to the Tories in May (and were just a few votes in front of Labour). The Tories beat us then in all three Lepton boxes.. Hopefully this shows we are on the way back to getting all three councillors in Almondbury once again!
Does the Rhyl result indicate the withdrawal of a Plaid or Ukip candidacy? Or did their candidate(s) ‘regenerate’ as independents?
Houghton Hall. Previous Cllr had been elected as a LD but had defected to Independent.
And Lewes have gained one in Newhaven. Four wins out of six on Thursday.
This is good and very encouraging news. May I add my thanks to all who worked so hard to achieve these results.
And, to add, we also took a Newhaven Town Council seat from UKIP – who fell to fourth place! #winninghere #libdemfightback 😉
So proud of the team!
