BAME Training Weekend offer

The Liberal Democrats have always strived to create an inclusive society regardless of background, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or any other different part of an individual’s identity. And at the Lib Dem Diversity team we work hard all year round to ensure that our party reflects this diverse and inclusive culture that we believe in.

That’s why on the 7th and 8th March the Liberal Democrat Diversity Team are hosting a free BAME training weekend at the Liberal Democrats Head Quarters in order to reach out to young people from BAME communities. Successful applicants will get a chance to develop professional skills and engage with senior Liberal Democrats, including Simon Hughes MP and Baroness Floella Benjamin. Some of our brilliant Parliamentary candidates such as Michael Bukola, Ibrahim Taguri, Amna Ahmad and Yahaya Kiyingi will also be there doing training, panel debates and question and answer sessions.

We have been working with Liberal Youth and Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrats to make sure that the weekend is exciting, informative and beneficial as possible. It is a unique opportunity for attendees to receive training on key skills to help them further their career in politics, meet like-minded individuals and network.

The event is open to 18-25 year olds who self-identify as being from a Black, Asian, or other ethnic minority background. No previous experience in politics is required although any community or campaigning work will be a distinct advantage. Whilst applicants do not have to a member of the Liberal Democrats party we do ask that they have sympathy with the broad values of the Liberal Democrats.

If you, or anybody you know would be interested in applying then you can download the application form here. Application forms must be returned with our Diversity Monitoring form which you can download here. Both forms must be returned by Monday 2nd February to [email protected]. Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 9th February.

If you have any questions please contact the diversity team at [email protected].

LDHQ I am not an “any other” and find it offensive to be described as such! I am Trans

If you are going to do a laundry list (even if from the constitution) name all. If you do not name all name none – “we welcome all strands of diversity” as an option

If the Diversity team can’t get it right then heaven (or whatever non deists believe in) help us!
