BBC reports Sarah Teather has won Brent Central

Apparently by 2,000 votes – if so, that will be a super-human effort given general disappointment of Lib Dem vote in London seats. More news as we get it …

Yes it’s true: Lib Dem GAIN from Labour in Brent Central on a huge 11% swing. An absolutely fantastic effort from Sarah Teather, who selflessly put herself up for election in the harder of the two seats she could have contested. Much kudos.

Sarah Teather Liberal Democrat 20,026 44.2% (+13.1)
Labour 18,681 41.2% (-8.9)
Conservative 5,068 11.2% (-1.9)

But disappointment in Streatham, despite a 5.3% swing from Labour:
Labour 20,037 42.8% (-4.2)
Chris Nicholson Liberal Democrat 16,778 35.8% (+6.3)
Conservative 8,578 18.3% (+2.0)

And disappointment too in Oldham East & Saddleworth, where the Lib Dems missed out on removing Phil Woollas by just 103 votes despite a 5.1% swing from Labour:
Labour 14,186 31.9% (-10.7)
Elwyn Watkins Liberal Democrat 14,083 31.6% (-0.5)
Conservative 11,773 26.4% (+8.7)

Congratulations to Sarah Louise Teather MP Brent Central that this time round is a L/D Gain .She has said that she intends to repay the electorate for placing their trust in her .Good Luck to our champion of decent L/D sustainable Housing Policy and Fairness.

  • As i stated in i the early hours, a lot of Labour votes have switched to Conservatives rather than us.

  • Well done Sarah Teather. There hasn’t been a lot of good news today but this is welcome.

  • I must admit welling up with emotion, well done Sarah and her team

I did some leafleting in Brent and it seemed clear to me talking to people on the doorstep that Sarah Teather should win. She is very well known and loved within her constituency and Dawn Butler was rather disliked, irrespective of ethnic divisions. Sarah T. is simply a credit to the Liberal Democrats.

I just want to say well done to the team in Brent, who worked so hard to gain this victory. I went over to Brent a few times to help out – lured from Harrow by the promise of free pizza in return for stuffing and stamping envelopes! – and was really impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of her team. Well done, guys, you really deserved this victory!
