  • A sad loss. How much worse than this year get for our party?

There are no words. Thoughts and prayers with his family

  • So many of those pictures are of him making someone laugh <3

So sad to to hear the news today. He was a lovely man and will be missed by many. I was proud to be one of his team in Parliament who opposed the war in Iraq and to have seen him at his best. He is a great loss, not only to the Liberal Democrats but to everyone who cares about the future direction of our party and our country.

  • Just want to say what lovely tributes to Charles Lib Dem Voice has presented.

I’ve made no bones about my views on Clegg, Orange Bookers and so many awful policies most Lib Dem MPs voted for.

But Kennedy deserved respect, and seeing him sidelined made me feel even less like voting Lib Dem.

So thank you, and for the warmth in the comments. I found myself crying this morning, for Charles, his family but also for us all.
Our politics seems in a horrible place at the moment, and losing someone who was the best of the past is a great loss.

  • @PBBrown

I felt the same this morning, so I thought about it and re-joined the party an hour ago. I so desperately want representatives like Charles and I think I should be trying to do something about it, perhaps you should too! As an incentive you can choose a Charles Kennedy membership card. 🙂 Politics is intrinsically problematic and we’ve seen the damage done by poor representatives, but if we don’t get involved in their selection, campaign and outcomes we’re unlikely to see more Kennedy’s. I’m giving it another roll anyway to commemorate the first politician that really inspired me.

Completely agree about the LDV tributes.

  • Welcome back ChrisB. I can think of no finer tribute to Charles.

  • I could not agree more with the warmth of these lovely tributes, Charles Kennedy was a politician I always listened to and liked, even before I became more closely involved with the Lib Dems, He simply made good sense and expressed his convictions strongly, but in a way people could really relate to and understand. We will all miss him very much.
