And this is just in response to high poll ratings. We haven’t seen the half of how quickly they will revert to form if they get into government.
Well, well, well. When push comes to shove the Tories “green credentials” rapidly melt away. What a surprise. NOT.
Waiting to see if Zac Goldsmith will maintain his principles & dignity by leaving Cameron’s charade & joining the LDs or the Green Party.
I dont think we’re surprised by this. It was just a matter of time.
Conservative Home does say, “The “Green Shift” (higher taxation of pollution and lower taxation of families) will nonetheless be restated as a medium term goal.” Which could be interpreted as ‘We will pretend we are green to get the votes in, but then not do anything if we take power.’
Don’t ever believe they will drop anything definitely as long as they can squeeze a few votes out of it.
Why is Cameron giving an open goal to us?
Is he incompetent, or does he fear winning a landslide which gives the more extreme wing of his party an exaggerated influence?
Anyway, this is great news for us because whichever way you look at it he is clearly in retreat.
If this turns out to be true (& I hope not – for the sake of the Planet)- perhaps the new Tory slogan will be ‘ Go Green & vote Tory sometime possibly in the future – maybe’.
I am inclined not to read too much into this with such a small amount of information.
Within the Conservative party there is a tension between the green wing of the party who wrote the environmental policy, and the economic wing of the party who are obsessed with free markets and know little about the environment.
Thank goodness our party is not like that.
Geoffrey,
Amen, brother.
I can see the Conservatives ripping up pledge after pledge as Labour gets the UK taxpayer further and further into debt.
With every announcement Labour get the population into debt for generations to come. The Government have also hidden vast amounts of expenditure in PFI contracts and in ‘taxcredits’.
Whoever wins the next general election will have to spend a decade clearing up the mess Mr Brown has left behind and I dont pity them.
