Both very moving and directly politically relevant in the context of the general election ; encouraging that the LibDem policy announcement for free adult social care was the lead item on BBC radio news this morning !

    Very moving.

  • Not necessarily earth shattering but as a lifelong (and often irritated) Guardian reader I cannot recall such an unqualified pre-manifesto endorsement of one of our key policies as that on social care in today’s paper. It should have been a cross-party no-brainer in many respects but simply asking Labour and the Conservatives how far they are prepared to go on Dilnot would convey the right message – and just as important the right tone.

He is very sincere on this and thankfully all the topics he speaks on.

It was a great interview – and team Ed must be loving life for the way that was presented as they (on the version I saw) devoted a lot of time to that segment and seemingly cut short the bit on Ed being challenged on not rejoining the EU!

I can’t recall an election where there was a better moment for a party to say ‘you’ve seen the old parties, if you think there is a better way, so do we’ but that ground is being ceded a bit.

There were many many criticisms that can be made of Nick as leader. Not all are fair but IMO quite a lot of them are. But this was I think his best moment as leader (and words I put on all our late campaign leaflets)
