Today’s setting of the budget for 24 March means it’s all but certain that the general election will be on 6 May, the date of the scheduled local elections. What that means in terms of deadlines for nominations, applying for postal votes and so on is detailed in this general and local elections 2010 timetable I’ve put together.

Can you confirm what date (under that timetable) would be the start of the “short period” for election expenses? Would that only start on the 12th?
Thanks!
Very useful timetable. However, I can’t see an entry for ‘Publication of notice of poll for general election’.
Thanks both.
Footsoldier: the earlier date it could start is the date of dissolution.
Nigel: I think you missed this line – “Statement of persons nominated and notice of poll (if no objections to nominations) for general election: 5pm on Tuesday 20 April”, or did I misunderstand your question?
