Want to find prominent Lib Dems on Facebook? Advertise the party’s latest campaigns on your profile page? Find Liberal Democrat groups on Facebook? Help recruit members to the party? Boast about how many doors you’ve canvassed today?
You can do all this and more with the party’s first official Facebook Application, launched earlier this week.
It’s available for Facebook users from http://apps.facebook.com/liberaldemocrats

Yes – and thanks, it’s very effective
It’s a great ap, I love the fact that I can get the headlines without going to the party page. Free cups of tea all round.
Re next steps, which you ask about over at Charlotte Gore’s blog. I wonder about some sort of bluffer’s guide to Lib Demmery as one of the buttons alongside “events”, “local groups” etc – something informally written about the history and workings and key figures/features of the party that helps people get a handle on things. Perhaps one could do it in the form of a glossary, or FAQs – “Why do people keep referring darkly to 1909? Why should I care?” for example.
In fact, if we did it as an FAQ, we could all write it collaboratively via LDV, and the list of FAQs could keep growing and growing.
The point would be to target the ap more directly at new people, and then could you co-ordinate so that new members automatically get invited to add the application if they’re on facebook?
Er . . . why do people keep referring darkly to 1909?
Or is it 1906? I forget.
Well in 1906 the Liberals were elected in a bit of a landslide, and in 1909 the whole Peoples’ Budget issue started taking off.
Interesting idea Alix. Is that an offer to co-ordinate it 🙂
What, you mean actually do something rather than sit out here maundering on about it?
Me and my big mouth.
The bird of liberty is a bit faint. I’ve only just noticed it!
