Lib Dem Cllr wins world meat pie championship with vegetarian recipe

Lancashire county councillor David Whipp has won the World Meat Pie championship, which travelled this year all the way to Barnoldswick, Lancashire. Winning a world meat pie contest with a vegetarian pie is simply out of this world.

All the newsanimals here at Liberal Democrat Voice Towers are licking their paws in tribute. Well done David.

More details can be found in the Lanchashire Telegraph.

His vegetarian cheese and onion recipe won the judges’ praises after an anonymous taste test during the February Feast: Love Food, Love Barnoldswick event in the town square on Saturday.

And his secret ingredient? “Lots of love,” said Cllr Whipp, who acts as co-chairman of Barnoldswick Town Centre Action Group and bakes for the Barnoldswick in Bloom cafe.

  • What a great story! Well done David!

    Is the recipe top secret?

As my late Mum used to say, ‘ You can’t live on love alone’.

  • The technically impossible has now become the absolutely possible – a message there for May 7th!

  • Could the secret ingredient be meat?

  • Just out of interest, is there a Lib Dem Cook book? Could be a good fundraiser!

  • No-one has yet said this shows why Nick Clegg has to resign and the Lib Dems are headed for electoral ruin in May.

    Is the internet broken?

  • Well done to him – I’m sure it’s lovely – but how does a cheese and onion pie win the world “meat” pie championship?

A pie with textured soy protein surely.

A meat pie which contains no meat ( or was there some suet in the pastry?); how does that comply with trades’ descriptions legislation.

But is it a metaphor for political parties who pledge one thing and deliver something entirely different?
