Liberal Democrat Jobwatch – 29 January 2014

If you fancy working for the Liberal Democrats, there’s a good variety of jobs on offer at the moment whether you’re a campaigner, researcher or administrator. Here’s a selection, taken from Work 4 an MP.

LDHQ based jobs

First up is a Presidential Intern for Tim Farron’s office. Don’t be fooled by the term intern because it pays quite reasonably, but is only until the end of July 2014. You’ll have to get in quick, though, because the closing date is next Monday.

Liberal Democrat Women are looking for a part-time administrator:

This position will be to support the LDW Executive, including helping to organise events and sending out correspondence to our members and the wider public. We are looking for someone to be the main source of contact for the organisation and deal with day-to-day administration.

Skills required:

  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Competent use of IT including full proficiency in using Microsoft Office as well as updating websites and providing artwork

A working knowledge of the Liberal Democrat Party is desirable.

The closing date is 10 February.

The party wants a Commercial Administrative Assistant to support the fundraising and conference operations:

The successful candidate will provide support with financial administration, data processing, assistance with commercial activities and event management. This will be a fast-paced role, which will be suited to someone with excellent organisational skills, effective time management and first rate interpersonal skills.

Again, this closes on 10 February.

If campaigning is your thing, you could apply for the Strategic Seat Communications Officer job:

The Liberal Democrats are recruiting for a Strategic Seat Communications Officer to support held and strategic seat candidates, organisers, teams and regionally based campaigns officers across the UK to develop and deliver key messages in a locally relevant and timely fashion.

Constituency jobs

There are various constituency campaigns jobs available in York, Newbury, Winchester. Jo Swinson is also looking for a PA to cover maternity leave for approximately 12 months:

A highly organised, efficient, friendly individual is sought for the role of Personal Assistant. This position is a temporary maternity leave position for approximately 12 months, including handover period. The position is based within a dynamic team in the Bearsden constituency office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing diary commitments in Westminster/constituency, organising meetings, visits, constituency initiatives and providing briefings
  • Managing the office expenditure/expenses
  • Booking/publicising constituency surgeries
  • Drafting letters/emails
  • Supervising volunteers/work experience students
  • Keeping relevant information filed and organised
  • General office administration

The successful candidate will display meticulous attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and be able to juggle competing priorities under time pressure.

This closes on Friday 7th February.

Fancy working in Cardiff?

A job just along from the Doctor Who Experience, overlooking the wonderful Cardiff Bay has got to be an attraction. The post of Head of Communications to the Welsh Assembly Liberal Democrat group is available. The present incumbent, we believe, has been spirited off to London to work for Nick Clegg.

Essential criteria include:

  • Experience of working effectively within the written press, broadcast or online industry, or public relations sector;
  • Demonstrable experience of effective media handling techniques including designing and delivering a communications plan;
  • Proven evidence of first class written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate the work of the group;
  • Ability to work flexibly on own initiative to tight deadlines;
  • Excellent organisation, planning and presentational skills.

The closing date for this one is 10th February.
