Liberal Youth co-option deadline extended to noon on 17th July

Remember last week I told you that Liberal Youth were conducting co-options for certain positions? Well, the deadline for nominations has been extended to noon on 17th July – that’s tomorrow.

Here’s a reminder of what’s up for grabs and how to apply:

Regional Chairs for North East and South Central regions

Regional Chairs are responsible for organising and assisting local Liberal Youth branches in their region and working directly with the Lib Dem regional executives.

We have positions open in the North East and South Central. For information on these positions please email Stuart Wheatcroft on [email protected].

To apply:

Please email  the Returning Officer, Caron Lindsay, on [email protected] with a 250 word manifesto saying something about yourself, why you would like to take up the position and other pieces of information or relevant experience. Nominations have been extended till noon on 17th July 2013.

Two members of Conference Committee

Conference Committee plays an important role in the way Liberal Youth functions; helping the Events Officer to co-ordinate its presence at Liberal Democrat Federal Conferences –including fringe events, the Liberal Youth reception and contacting guest speakers – as well as Liberal Youth’s annual Winter Conference, summer training weekend Activate! and other important national events.

Enthusiasm and commitment to Liberal Youth’s events and ways of engaging its members is important. Past experience in organising events is preferable, though not vital.

If you would like to know more about what the job involves contact the Events Officer, Conor McKenzie, on [email protected].

Nominations close at noon on 17th July. Current Conference Committee members will vote shortly after to co-opt two members.

If you would like to stand, please email the Returning Officer, Caron Lindsay, on [email protected] with a 250 word manifesto saying something about yourself, why you would like to join the committee, any past experience and anything else you feel is relevant.

English Council Representatives

Every year Liberal Youth gets reserved places on the English Council ( the body that governs the English Lib Dem Party).

If you’re interested then please email Stuart Wheatcroft on [email protected].

Libertine Editor

This isn’t an elected position, but I thought I’d include it here as it’s a great job. Do you fancy editing LY’s blog, The Libertine? If so,  email Steve Haynes  on [email protected].

* Caron Lindsay is Editor of Liberal Democrat Voice and blogs at Caron's Musings

Does this mean that these positions had no nominations first time round? Indeed are there any active LY members in these regions? (And I don’t think I ever got any answers to my question of how many people voted int he original elections?)

Tony, actually, there were, but a decision had been taken to extend nominations for various practical reasons.

  • Caron – I assume co-optees have to be Liberal Youth members, i.e. there is an age cut-off??

  • Stuart Wheatcroft 18th Jul '13 - 2:42am

Tony Greaves – There are active LY members in both regions, and indeed branches. The patterns of activism across the country are somewhat variable: it just so happens that in those regions members have opted to be active through local parties or local LY branches rather than by standing for these posts.
