In Autumn conferences past, bloggers have met together for a special “Liberal Drinks” during the conference week.
A few of us on the LDV team have been wondering whether to organise a get-together at Liverpool’s Spring conference. It is always a little trickier to manage at Spring because conference is shorter and so many events are packed into less time.
Still, we’re wondering about running the usual, informal gathering at a good pub with nice beer, probably on the Friday night. It could be a chance to meet up with old friends and new, and put faces to URLs.
There are a few clashes on Friday night, but not nearly so many as on Saturday evening, when amongst the many activities are the Campaign for Gender Balance blog awards, heavily trailed here on LDV, and after that, the Glee Club.
If you’re interested in a pub night on Friday, let us know in the comments. We’re particularly keen to hear from people with local knowledge able to suggest a suitable pub too.

Would love to meet up, and I’m sure we can find time on Friday.
It might also be a good time to talk to other bloggers who want to get involved with the ongoing Blogging Interviews, so come along folks and help shape the project 🙂
Yay! This one’s nice but it’s in the town centre proper and the conference centre is a little bit out along the river – where are people mostly staying?

No seats left when we were in there on a Saturday night about 8 though, so we’d need to get an early stake-out.
Having just joined the Liberal Drinks Facebook group 🙂 I would like to sample a little of this. But I know very little of Liverpool so I may just wait for whtever recommondation takes my fancy 🙂
The Lib Dem bloggers Facebook group has also been asking this question…
Yes and no-one listened to me! 🙁
There’s a Lib Dems in PR gathering in the hotel bar at about 7pm – details on Facebook.
I’ll plug the Wetherspoons pub near Lime Street, the Richard John Blackler, if only because it’s named after one of my relatives 🙂
The “CONNECT” group is also meeting up Saturday night at the PanAm Bar & Restaurant for 7.45pm.
Its a members only gathering, you can join the group through Facebook and then attend the event.
Many on LDV are already members and know of the group for those that don’t have a look at the Facebook to get a flavour of what we are about.
Jenny Williot will be our special guest for the night.
It would be nice to meet everyone at conference as many bloggers are in London and I won’t come across many of them for this reason. (I’d like to meet Gavin to see if he’s as pervy as he sounds for instance!)
However, as Rob mentioned there is a Lib Dems in PR drinks night on the saturday and then the blogging awards…
It would be very nice though :@)
Friday night sounds good – if people want to ‘warm up’ they can grab some free drinks at the LGA reception first, and then get stuck into some serious drinking thereafter!
Friends, I’ve been considering drinking plans! On the conference map,
http://www.libdems.org.uk/media/conference/S08LiverpoolMap.pdf
the one I mentioned above is on Dale Street, the large road running roughly east-west, second from the top (why can’t the damn thing have a grid?) and Will’s ancestral pub (used to be the ancestral department store, I gather) is near the station on about the same latitude over to the right.
I’ll be coming from the rally/keynote stuff as I imagine most people will, and that’s in the LCC conference centre (ringed in the lower half). I found this pub on Stanhope Street by doing a search for real ale and food, which I imagined would please many LD hearts:

It’s down towards the bottom of the map just below the big fat Parliament Street, so it’s a bit out of town but allegedly 5 mins walk from the LCC. What about there? Advantage, easy to get to from the rally, it sounds nice and it won’t be city-centre-Friday-night packed. Disadvantage it’s out of town a bit and I don’t know where all the hotels are – makes no odds to me as I’m staying out of town anyway.
Thoughts? Perhaps some skyping and a poll! We are Lib Dems after all.
I shall be on the registration desk until the Rally starts, then I’m not sure, but definitely up for something—I’m sure someone can find me at the desk if I’m stuck there all the way through?
I’ll plug Tess Riley’s, for the same reason 😀
Annoyingly, most of the pubs that I know to be good at not near the arena or the main hotel. Perhaps some last-minute investigation is required…
Ah, rats, bad timing. I’ve taken an executive decision – there will be a post here tomorrow, along with an interview with Liverpool PPC Colin Eldridge. He says Council meetings often end in Rigbys, and that would be a good place to go. I have made an event on FlockTogether and Facebook
That’s a good choice 🙂
Would love to join you but have a regional dinner, tho will be at LGA reception later.

An Australian member of the ‘Blackler diaspora’, I am amazed to learn that a British pub bears my name! Whilst egalitarian Australia dispensed with the Imperial honours system in 1975, having a pub bear your name is an acceptable distinction.
