London Region Elections: Anuja Prashar’s pitch for Chair

I am standing for Chair of London region because after the European and local elections 2014 and GE 2015 election, Liberal Democrats need committed support and dedicated focus to rebuild local party capacity for important elections coming up in the next 3 years. The Chair will have a pivotal role, to build up local party teams for a series of campaigns, by providing them the resources and support needed to take their energy and turn it into election wins.

I have served as Chair of my local party for 3 years, executive of London region for 3 years, stood in a council by-election 2012, campaigned all over London as European list candidate 2013-2014, PPC in GE 2015, worked on several policy working groups and worked at many levels of the party – including chairing the GLA selection committee 2015 and representing Lib Dems at ALDE policy groups in Brussels. I have also seen what our new members can do if given the right institutional support at the local level. I have complete conviction that Lib Dems in London can regain and indeed acquire new political territory over the next 3 years.

London is a global city at the heart of National, European and Global economy. Therefore, the role of Mayor and the GLA is increasingly important and Liberal Democrats must do everything we can to ensure that London has systems with good infrastructure, education, health and crime management.  Ensuring systems of social justice and opportunities for all are vital ingredients for sustaining a successful global city. Caroline Pigeon and all our GLA candidates are best placed to do what is required.

If I am chosen as Chair for London region, with my campaigning skills, institutional skills and my policy work at local, national, regional and European levels, I commit to support Caroline and her team at every local party weekend action day – together we will galvanize each party to develop delivery teams, set up regular action days and implement ‘Out Reach’ events to ensure the best result for Mayoral & GLA elections 2016. This first campaign will be the foundation for preparing for EU referendum 2016-17 and developing local capacity to win council seats in 2018.

The EU referendum is a great opportunity for #‎LibDemFightBack for the most historic campaign in our life time and to create capacity for the local elections in 2018. The public need correct information on EU issues to make an informed choice at the EU referendum. I am honoured to be Treasurer of the European Movement and their lead for the ‘Out Reach’ campaign called #‎Communities4Europe. Liberal Democrats are the only political party fully committed to and qualified for this project. I am dedicated to champion the REMAIN IN position, working closely with many organisations such as ,  and  .

Working together strategically across London we Lib Dems can now rebuild, grow stronger and win campaign after campaign up to local elections 2018 – I am dedicated to work dynamically towards this goal.

They certainly do and I hope the Lib Dems are able to offer clear honest guidance in this regard.
