Manifesto snippets in BSL Part 5: young people, immigration and housing

The Liberal Democrats have produced a series of 20 videos giving snippets of our manifesto in BSL. We are the first major party to do so. The full list is here.

We’ll also put them up on here in batches over the next wee while. If you want to see all our posts, just click on the bsl tag at the bottom of this post.

In this post, you will find young people, immigration and housing

  • I do think that the ball was dropped in the preparation of these YouTube videos, between the production company responsible for the content and those responsible for internet presentation, as it is obvious from Caron’s postings and the YouTube Playlist that was no real consideration for how the video’s would look in a catalogue/playlist and hence selecting a still from the video (or a graphic) that both sold the video and gave a visual cue to the content. At it’s most basic the playlist frame should be the same as the photo’s used on the LibDem manifesto website. And why was the “Including accessible versions in different formats” tucked away at the bottom right under “Read the full manifesto” when this option should of been displayed “above the fold” ie. on the part of the page a visitor see’s first?

But then looking at the other online formats, such as the Audio recording version, which simply labels the audio files: 01, 02, 03… this would seem to be a common failing. Similar considerations also apply to the print version – why hide the availability of alternative versions in the small print at the end, when this could been put near the beginning and/or on the back cover?

With respect to the Easy read version, I would of put this online and Widget enabled it (see http://www.widget.com, a UK business, to see what I mean).
