The party has just released the text of the letter from Nick Clegg to Sir Thomas Legg confirming that the Lib Dem leader will – as recommended by Sir Thomas – re-pay £910 of taxpayers’ money claimed as expenses for gardening costs associated with Nick’s second home. Here’s the text of the letter:
Dear Sir Thomas,
Thank you for your letter dated 12 October which I received this afternoon.
I note that you recommend that I make a repayment of £910 for gardening costs.
On your advice I have made this repayment to the Department of Finance and Administration today.
Yours sincerely,
Nick
Menawhile Sky News is reporting that Gordon Brown has also agreed to pay back expenses claimed for cleaning, while Sir Thomas is requesting further information from Tory party leader David Cameron in relation to his mortgage claims in 2006.
Update: according to Sky, the Prime Minister is paying back a fairly astonishing £12,415. That’s a hefty personal contribution to the national debt.

I am looking forward to learning about the answers to the letter which Norman Baker MP probably received today from Legg ! Apparently, he has denied that he is not standing again in Lewes and rumours that he was deselected by his own people a week or so ago.
Holier than though caught troughing and having to repay the taxpayer,whatever next.
@Richard
BBC reports:
Sir Thomas had asked him (Norman) for more information to justify his mortgage interest payments.
He told the BBC: “I’ve never claimed for a mortgage … I’ve deliberately not done that as a matter of principle, so it seems to me some of the information he’s basing his statements on is completely inaccurate.”
