Tessa Munt speaks out about being sexually abused as a child

Tessa Munt photo by Keith EdkinsThe Western Daily Press has the story:

An MP who campaigned for an inquiry into historical paedophile allegations has revealed how she was sexually abused as a child.

Tessa Munt told how she kept silent for decades about the abuse because she feared she would not be believed.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Wells took the decision to speak publicly for the first time about her childhood trauma as Theresa May announced an independent inquiry to investigate the handling by public bodies of allegations of child sex abuse.

She said the Home Secretary’s decision marked a “massive step forward” for people who had been abused and warned any attempt to now cover up any findings of wrongdoings would happen “over my dead body”.

Well done for speaking out. It is sad to hear.

I had written in praise of Tessa Munt in response to another article and before this one appeared, but just in case Tessa reads this article, may I repeat that I think that disclosing such personal information to the public so as to help others is incredibly brave and selfless.

When people in everyday life make sweeping and derogatory statements that all politicians are all self-serving, they should pause and read the reason why Tessa entered politics. I am so full of admiration for her.

Huge respect for Tessa for bringing it all back to something very real. Full of courage, honesty & hope. I could not be prouder of her.

Well done Tessa for helping to bring this out into the open. I have been following the cases for years and been appalled by the reluctance to act by government and main stream media. Well done too for being able to speak openly about your own experiences. Now we must try to make sure that it is not all or partly covered up again.
