Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #122

Welcome to the 122nd of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (13th-20th June 2009), together with a hand-picked quintet, mostly courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.

As ever, let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down.

1. Is Tim Farron the LibDems’ best campaigner?
by Mark Littlewood on Liberal Vision’s blog.
You might very well think that.

2. Sorry Irfan You’ve Just Lost All Respect
on Stephen Glenn’s Linlithgow Journal.
Taking issue with Ifran’s promotion of Respect’s Salma Yaqoob.

3. Goodbye Liberal Conspiracy – a conspiracy against liberals indeed… on Mark Valladares’ Liberal Bureaucracy blog.
Yes, it’s LibCon’s infamous Those FibDems rant by Rupert Read – its long comments thread is one of the most depressingly tribal reads I’ve ever endured.

4. Death by bar chart? Tories plotting to kill in Norwich North by Helen Duffett on Lib Dem Voice.
And speaking of tribal comments threads…

5. Leaving Cowley St for the Good Life
on Jonathan Wallace’s blog.
But will Jonathan be playing Tom or Barbara?

6. Bye Bye BNP
on coldcomfort’s Grumpy Old Liberal blog.
Can the EU’s nazi parties put aside their hatred of each other the better to hate minorities?

7. George Osborne wants to re-enact the mid-1990’s Canadian fiscal consolidation – so do I… on Mark Valladares’ Liberal Bureaucracy blog.
Young Master Osborne receives a little history lesson from Cllr Lady Mark.

And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. As is now traditional we’re using the LibDig widget to select some of the posts from the seven days in question which you’ve most ‘dug’. But, remember, if you want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published). This week’s select 5 are all nominated by the reassuringly extensive Alex Love and Liberty Wilcock. So blame him.

8. Chalk another one up for the bastards
on Andy Darley’s And Then He Said blog.
“The gravel-voiced and perfectly poised Andy on the dead-tree media sending the opposition to sleep with the fishes,” says Alex.

9. Digital Britain, poll tax and the great FM turn-off
on ‘Costigan Quist’s’ Himmelgarten Cafe blog.
“The gorgeous and titillating Costigan on digital radio – an issue most parties are going to find blowing up in their faces,” says Alex.

10. PSA: Liberal Conspiracy
on Jennie Rigg’s blog.
‘The straw has landed. The camel’s back is broken. I have tendered my resignation.’ Liberal Conspiracy’s loss is, well, LibCon’s loss.

11. Day 3090: Green Eyed Monster
on Millennium Elephant, Diary’s Very Fluffy Diary blog.
“The small fluffy elephant that made the deputy editor of one of the country’s biggest political sites go into meltdown for picking on him,” says Alex.

12. Oh no, Lord Carlile’s talking about terrorism again on David Matthewman’s blog.
“The title of which says what we all think, really,” says Alex.

That’s it for another week. Ish. Happy blogging.
