Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #56

Welcome to the 56th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (9th-16th March), together with a quintet hand-picked by Lib Dem blog readers you might otherwise have missed.

Let’s get straight down to it, in descending order of popularity:

1. Clegg ditches Lib Dem commitment to PR on Jonny Wright’s Hug a Hoodie blog.
To PR or not PR, that’s still the question.

2. RETRACTION: Mark Littlewood, Rentacritic
on Andrew Hinton’s Mindrobber blog.
An exchange which puts The Guardian’s corrections and clarifications column in the shade.

3. Clegg speech – the press verdict(s) by Russell Eagling on Centre Forum’s Freethink blog.
A round-up of the analyses of the Lib Dem leader’s first conference speech.

4. The good, the bad and the downright ugly on Bob Shaw’s You might very well think that blog.
Despite the somewhat dyspeptic headline, Bob gives Liverpool 8/10 overall.

5. Liverpool – why it was great… on Alex’s A Lanson Boy blog.
The highs, the lows, the inbetweens.

6. Spotted at conference…
on Jo Anglezarke’s Jo’s Jottings blog.
And why not? Some people spot car registration plates for a hobby.

7. The truth about Shirley Williams and Europe on Lib Dem Voice.
No, she didn’t threaten to defect. Yes, The Times did used to be a paper of record.

And now to the five slots we reserve under the category ‘well worth reading even if they didn’t get the most clicks this week’. Thanks to those who submitted this week’s nominations. Remember, all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected], highlighting the best Lib Dem blog postings from the past week (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. Opinion: The issue is not faith schools but freedom of conscience by Joe Otten on Lib Dem Voice.
Nominated by Paul Walter: “It is a very refreshing approach to an issue which has excited quite a lot of circular debate on Lib Dem Voice.”

9. Darling’s budget – a cheap shirt, a small bit of foam and a big bloke bumping into you on Alex’s A Lanson Boy blog.
Nominated by Bridget Fox: “Alex has instantly deconstructed the budget millions into petty cash, showing the power of a good picture. And he made me laugh out loud before breakfast.”

10. Salisbury Road Post Office: what closure would really mean on Lynne Featherstone’s Parliament and Haringey Diary blog.
Community politics in action.

11. Post-conference thoughts; all believers now
on Bridget Fox’s blog.
How about this for a conclusion? “I’m certain God does believe in Nick Clegg. And so do I.”

12. Girls and Hair – It’s just beyond me on Richard Baum’s blog.
I think Richard may come to regret this one.

And that’s it for another week… Happy blogging!
