Gentle reader, I crave your indulgence. Last week, I forgot all about the Golden Dozen, … something to do with an historic US election put it clean out of my mind. Fortunately, no-one yet seems to have noticed, and I think I may just have got away with it. So anyway…
Welcome to the very belated 89th of our weekly ( 😳 ish) round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (26th-October – 1st November), together with a hand-picked quintet, mostly courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.
How about starting with the most popular blog-posting, and we work our way down? Here goes…
1. “Lemby” answers his critics…………… on Linda Jack’s Lindyloo’s Muze blog.
Lembit picks up the gauntlet.
2. Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #88 on Lib Dem Voice.
The highest spot yet for our weekly round-up. I’ll stop doing the Golden Dozen the day it gets to number one.
3. Conservatives say ill councillor “just gave up”. on Antony Hook’s blog.
Town Council elections in Dover sound like fun.
4. Brand, Ross and the witch hunt on ‘Costigan Quists’s’ Himmelgarten Café blog.
“this has all the hallmarks of a witch hunt, with tabloids attacking the BBC for daring to trespass onto their territory and political leaders who should know better jumping at the chance of a quick soundbite.”
5. Myths about party membership by Mark Pack on Lib Dem Voice.
In short, don’t panic: a membership of 60,000 isn’t as bad as it seems.
6. ICM and the Liberal Democrats by Mark Pack on Lib Dem Voice.
What would the Lib Dems do without ICM. (Seriously).
7. Three Electoral Commission investigations that could cause trouble for the Conservatives (UPDATED) by, erm, Mark Pack, on, erm, Lib Dem Voice.
Time for a round of Bad News, Good News, anyone?
And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. And this week, for the second time – and, therefore, I can now say ‘as is traditional’ – we’re using the LibDig widget to select some of the posts from the seven days in question which you’ve most ‘dug’. But, remember, if you want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).
8. Why an army of small donors isn’t all good news on Lynne Featherstone’s Parliament and Haringey Diary blog.
The antidote to Obamania.
9. The strange case of the perfectly normal people on Alix Mortimer’s The People’s Republic of Mortimer blog.
On the strange success of nickclegg.com.
10. “Accidental genius” and the secrets of Barack Obama’s success on Neil Stockley’s blog.
“The gruelling campaign of 2008 has given both candidates plenty of opportunities to tell and to live their stories, so that the voters can work out or, perhaps more accurately, gain an intuitive sense of whom they want to see in the Oval Office.”
11. Today is the day I start subsidising my male peers… on Jo Christie-Smith’s blog.
”As a Liberal I believe in the market and competition; but when the market is not working properly as a result of discrimination then I believe the market needs to be regulated.”
12. Popular TV star attacks Andrew Sachs on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England blog.
Well, it made me smile out loud anyway.
That’s it for this week. Until the next belated Golden Dozen (#90), that is. Happy blogging.
