Welcome to the Golden Dozen, and our 188th weekly round-up from the Lib Dem blogosphere … Featuring the seven most popular stories beyond Lib Dem Voice according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (19th – 25th September, 2010), together with a hand-picked quintet, normally courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.
Don’t forget: you can sign up to receive the Golden Dozen direct to your email inbox – just click here – ensuring you never miss out on the best of Lib Dem blogging.
As ever, let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down:
1. David Laws Doesn’t Want to Return to Government on Stephen’s Liberal Journal.
“It is a sad case when someone is forcibly outed and loses their va-va voom as appears to be the case with one of the sharpest minds in the Lib Dem parliamentary team.” See also 6.
2. When the going gets tough, the defectors get going on Jonathan Wallace’s blog.
“She asks that her decision be respected. Okay, we will do that but I say to you Yvonne that you must respect your former colleagues who worked so hard to get you where you are now and who you have now left.”
3. Outrage at action of liberal youth executive on Michael Carchrie Campbell’s Gyronny Herald.
Unimpressed by their endorsement of Tim Farron for President: “I am outraged by this usurpation of the members’ rights.”
4. Excellent St Ives Liberal Democrats blog on Paul Walter’s Liberal Burblings.
Blogging-up St Ives Lib Dems.
5. Stephen Gilbert MP on Why He is Backing Tim Farron for President on Stephen’s Liberal Journal.
Tim Farron sets his record straight (so to speak).
6. David Laws “may stand down at the next election” on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England.
See also 2.
7. The Liberal Democrats Conference in Liverpool was a disaster on Andrew Reeves’ Running Blog.
“I think journalism is an art, but many now report their opinion rather than the news.”
And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended, regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. These are normally chosen using the LibDig bookmarking website for party members, the site where you can highlight blog-posts you want to share with your fellow Lib Dems. Remember, though, you’re still more than welcome to nominate for the Golden Dozen a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail … all you have to do is drop a line to [email protected].
8. What really happens at Federal Policy Committee on Neil Fawcett’s blog.
‘The insider’s account (alas, minus some of the juiciest gossip).’ (Submitted by stephenftall via LibDig.)
9. The way forward on Lisa Harding’s Spiderplant Land.
‘Spidey tells it how it is. We need support now from Cowley Street to get the job done in the face of a determined press machine that is against us.’ (Submitted by cjmillsnun via LibDig.)
10. You can’t be almost equal, any more than you can be slightly pregnant on Sara Bedford’s Always win when you’re singing.
‘The best of many great speeches in the Equal Marriage debate at Conference which showed our party off to its absolute best.’ (Submitted by Caron via LibDig.)
11. Day 3545: I Like To Ride My Economic Cycle on Millennium Dome, Elephant’s Very Fluffy Diary.
‘Great explanation of the significance of the economic cycle from our favourite fluffy elephant.’ (Submitted by lizw via LibDig.)
12. On diversity we should copy Cameron by Andy Mayer on Liberal Vision.
‘Time for a Lib Dem A-list of candidates?’ (Submitted by stephenftall via LibDig.)
And that’s it for another week. Happy blogging ‘n’ reading ‘n’ nominating.

Shurely “See also 2”?
Sorry, meant see also 1.
Nice little birthday treat for me there for the week starting with it.
Also chuffed that Michael is in there too. Three blogs written in Northern Ireland this week. 🙂
Just some indirect criticism of Jonathan Wallace’s post at 2, from his own blog. I am sure many of the points he makes about Yvonne McNicol, defectors in general, and the attitude of Labour in Gateshead are true (although maybe reciprocation against Labour by Lib Dems may not be so brilliant, either?) However, knowing Jonathan slightly, his suggestion that Yvonne should have gone to him and talked before doing the dirty deed and defecting seems pretty unlikely – he strikes me as being a man very difficult to get close to, and someone you would steer away from in those sort of situations. Sorry, Jonathan, but some self-knowledge is useful before making posts like this!
