I had a tear or too yesterday when I saw Yi-Pei Chou Turvey MSP become the first British politician to receive the European Liberal Forum’s “Rising star” award.
It is fantastic to see her recognised for her work on Aberdeenshire Council at the start of her term as the North East’s Lib Dem MSP.
Sal Brinton was there and sent me this video of the event and Yi-Pei’s speech.
Yi-Pei said:
I am humbled and honoured to receive this award on the 50th anniversary of ALDE.
More than ever today, we are going to fight violence and divisions in our communities and countries with the power of peace, care and representation.
We need to work together and build for the future, listening to each other and stopping the division.
Thank you for believing in me and I will do my very best to bring our liberal values in my work as a Liberal Democrat MSP.
I had the tiniest role in the plotting of this and I was hopeful when she said that she was going to Vienna that she would win. Hannah Bettsworth, Vice Chair of the Lib Dem Federal International Relations Committee put her nomination together. Here there are moments after Yi-Pei received her award.
