Congratulations to former Lib Dem Voice editor Andy Boddington on a resounding victory in the Council by-election in Ludlow North!
Andy is the man in the hat – as always.
The result:
Andy Boddington: 579 (Lib Dem)
Antony Bevington: 382 (Conservative)
Graeme Perks: 223 (Independent)
Danney Sweeny. 94 (Labour)
Andy’s share of the vote rose from 33.6% to 45.3%.
Andy says:
I am humbled by the huge majority. This election has not been about party politics. It’s been about getting a decent deal for Ludlow from Shropshire Council. It is a vote for Ludlow by the people of Ludlow.
* Mary Reid is a contributing editor on Lib Dem Voice. She was a councillor in Kingston upon Thames, where she is still very active with the local party, and is the Hon President of Kingston Lib Dems.

A great result for Andy and the very hard-working team in Ludlow around him. After Marion’s recent win in Lichfield the West Midlands continues to march on!
An interesting result in that the Conservative defeat cannot be blamed on UKIP intervention. No doubt Labour has never polled high here, but I suspect it also shows, like some other results, that in areas where we’re strong and obviously in a contest with the Tories, we can still get Labour tactical votes.
Andy’s share of the vote rose from 33.6% to 45.3%.
And it was a genuinely good result in that the share of the vote also rose by 13.3% from that attained in the last pre-coalition contest in the ward, in 2009 – and the vote even rose in numerical terms, unusually enough.
