I may be a sad case, but at 70 years old and life-long liberal and former LibDem councillor, details of policy no longer interest me. My only concern now is why my “human-rights-promoting” party, (see the Preamble to the Party’s Constitution), – and even Layla!- are not banging on about ethnic cleansing and genocide in occupied Palestine, (the West Bank including E Jerusalem and Gaza)
@John Hall. Possibly because, appalling as the death toll is, it does not amount to ethnic cleansing or genocide. I utterly deplore the actions of the IDF and the government of Israel, but throwing these accusations about is Hamas’s game and you should not go along with it, because it is trying to deflect attention from the equally appalling actions of Hamas in using rape and murder to forward their agenda.
I want an immediate ceasefire, so does our party leadership. I want to stop arms sales, so does our party leadership. I favour a two state solution, so does our party leadership.
Layla has been saying exactly the right things and trying to keep a balance in this very difficult situation.
I am against all war, it never solves anything. A ceasefire and peace talks are what is needed, not accusations that are not based in fact.
