Congratulations to Annette Brooke, Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole, for winning MP of the Year in the Dods & Scottish Widows Women in Public Life Awards.
The accolade was awarded by a panel of judges which included Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, Dame Suzi Leather, Chair of The Charity Commission and Dame Barbara Stocking, Chief Executive of Oxfam.
The judges said that Annette Brooke deserved to win thanks to her record of “tirelessly lending her wisdom, position and huge skill to help hundreds of children’s organisations, and by association, many thousands of children. Public life would be very much the poorer were it not for Annette Brooke and her absolute determination to use her public position to do good,”
On winning the award Annette Brooke said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won this award. Children and young people are our future, and it is inspiring working with so many wonderful children’s charities and organisations. To be recognised for this work is incredible, especially as there was such stiff competition.”
Well done Annette.

I’m really pleased to see this. An excellent, decent MP who isn’t tempted by the comfortable and showy aspects of Westminster life, but puts in the hard work to get things done. Can we clone her?
I agree that Annette Brooke is an excellent MP but I surely cannot be alone in groaning at the publication of this news. It brings on my grumpy old man syndrome .
This will be the first of the annual round of awards to MP’s , many of them self- serving and congratulary and some on a buggins turn basis. Few will be deserved.
The Herald awards to Scottish MP’s and MSP’s at a grotesque televised bash is the most embarrassing of the genre but there will be many others over the next two months or so.
Congratulations to Annette Brooke. She really should be in the Government Mr Clegg.
Congratulations to Annette, an old girl of Romford Technical High School (now part of Marshalls Park School), from the London Borough of Havering LibDems.
(Havering is much better at schooling liberals than electing them.)
